May 12, 2020: FirstPass Engineering announced that it is expanding its existing ASIC / FPGA design and verification services to include advanced ASIC / FPGA Cyber-security. This new division is led by Brad Bailey, current VP of the Federal Division. His current role dovetails nicely with his new role given the expected need for ASIC / FPGA Cyber-security services in DOD and Mil / Aero.
In recent years, increased security regarding the very design flow of ASICs and FPGAs has emerged as necessary to counter attack an insidious form of bad-actor ‘hacking’. Threats include ASIC Tampering, Intellectual Property Cloning and Theft, and the actual insertion of malicious hardware into designs under development. To counter these threats, FirstPass employs sophisticated counter-threat measures including strong overall security as well as Integrated Circuit (IC) Camouflaging, Anti-tampering Layers, and Physically Unclonable functions (PUFs) to name a few.
